Advice for the warmer, summer months

If you don't already have a water butt to collect and store rainwater, this is a great way to water your plants without using more water from a tap.

A diverter valve, set into your rainwater downpipe, can re-fill the water butt with rainwater and after the barrel is full the rain is discharged as usual. A tap at the bottom of the barrel lets you fill your watering-can, and that's all there is to it.

And, if you want more rainwater, two (or more) barrels can easily be linked together as in this image.
